Exam Preparations...
The following is a list of exam preparations required for each procedure. Should you have any questions prior to your exam please contact any XRA Medical Imaging office with your inquiry and we will be happy to assist you.

GI Series

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight before your examination
(Including water).

BE (Barium Enema)
Obtain a fleet Prep kit #1 from a drug store. Follow the instructions for the 18-hour preparation (starting at noon the day prior to the exam).

IVP (Kidney)
No solid food 4 hours prior to exam. You may take clear liquids and medication only.

Ultrasound

Abdomen, RUQ, GB, Liver, Pancreas, Aorta
Nothing to eat or drink after midnight for morning appointments. For afternoon appointments, nothing to eat or drink 6hrs prior to the exam.

Pelvic or Bladder
2 Hours before exam drink 32oz of water. Finish drinking water within the first hour. Do not void. Your bladder must be full to perform this exam.

Obstetric
No preparation necessary for obstetric ultrasound.

Prostate (Endorectal)
3 hours prior to exam time take a Fleet Enema.

Renal, Thyroid, Breast, Scrotum, DVT
No preparation necessary.

Mammography
Wear no perfume, powder or deodorant when coming in for an appointment.

CT Scan

Head, IAC, Chest, Neck, C-Spine
Nothing to eat or drink 4 hours prior to exam. 2 hours for C-Spine.

Abdomen or Pelvis
Day before exam pick up CT Scan Barium at X-Ray office and follow directions included with barium. Nothing to eat 4 hours prior to exam. Please call our offices as soon as possible for a complete screening. (Performed by phone).

MRI
Exam is scheduled by you or your referring physician. Please call our offices as soon as possible for a complete MRI screening. (Performed by phone).
